Acai & Cancer
Acai and cancer have long been linked together. The research into whether acai berry can cure
cancer had been an ongoing one. Although, in lab tests, acai berry kills cancer cells, more research was needed
before any breaking news about how acai berry cures cancer are publicized worldwide.
Does acai berry cure cancer?
In January 2006, the University of Florida, in Gainsville FL, published that the
little Brazilian 's acai berry cured cancer cells. The University of Florida was one of the first institution
to test the effect of acai berry on human cancer cells. In the extract from their publication:
"Published today in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, the study showed
extracts from acai (ah-SAH’-ee) berries triggered a self-destruct response in up to 86
percent of leukemia cells tested, said Stephen Talcott, an assistant professor with UF’s Institute of
Food and Agricultural Sciences.
“Acai berries are already considered one of the richest
fruit sources of antioxidants,” Talcott said. “This study was an important step toward learning what people
may gain from using beverages, dietary supplements or other products made with the berries.”
Acai berry test on Cancer cells still preliminary
Although in a lab, acai berry shows significant effect of killing cancer cells, it is still
premature to say that acai berry cures cancer. Acai berry is rich in antioxidants that destroy cancer cells in a
lab. However, the health benefits and health properties of acai berry are complex and more research is needed to
conclude anything materialistic.
For now, it is safe to say that acai berry is good for a healthy body. With so many proven
health benefits, having acai berry or acai berry juice in your diet is likely to promote good health, whether
acai berry cures cancer or not.
